IJmuiden aan Zee is an unique place in the Netherlands, on a crucial crossing point.
A number of different, powerful, raw identities and qualities collide. Harbor, sea, industry, beach, dunes and nature. In the next decade a new coastal town will arise here, outside the mainland protected by dykes and dunes. As the frontrunner of the permanent area development, FabCityNature explores the potential of the area over the next five years.
FabCityNature is an open platform, in which we will learn to build with nature.
As a member of the global FabCity network we present with FabCityNature an international showcase, in which area, urban and nature development and climate change come together. FabCityNature is working on innovative models, prototypes, typologies and processes, also of value for implementation elsewhere. It offers the opportunity to discover how we can develop a truly climate proof, sustainable coastal town in IJmuiden aan Zee.
FabCityNature is build on three pillars:
CAMPUS: experimental playground. Experiment, learn and evolve.
COMMUNITY: be connected to each other and the area. Experience, share and grow.
DESIGN: temporary buildings and public space. Investigate, test and innovate.
In the spring of 2019 a campsite of 20 tiny houses for adventurous visitors and potential future residents, will open.
This will reveal the strengths and potential of the location. Be welcome!
After five to ten years, the permanent development will start, using FabCityNature’s conclusions, insights, innovations to create a future- proof, vivid and vibrant village.
